OKARA, Aug 21: Most of the city markets remained closed on Sunday in protest against a dacoity-cum-murder incident occurring two days back in which a prize-bond dealer was killed while his father was severely injured.

Reports said dozens of local traders gathered in front of the deceased Javid Majid’s shop on Sunday morning, who was killed by some unidentified dacoits when he tried to resist a robbery bid near city’s busy Venus Chowk.

The traders, mostly belonging to the Anjuman-i-Tajran, raised slogans, demanding immediate arrest of Javid’s killers. They later announced a shutter-down to protest against the lawlessness.

DPO Dr Jamil Ahmad, speaking to the traders, claimed that police had found some clues to the dacoits and they would be arrested soon. Despite the DPO’s assurance, a majority of the traders decided to go on strike.

A heavy contingent of police remained present in the troubled area to prevent any untoward incident.
