FAISALABAD, Aug 21: A man was killed while five others sustained serious injuries when over a dozen publicity boards uprooted in different parts of the city during a thunderstorm here on Sunday.

About six rickshaws and a car were damaged when large billboards fell on them in Satiana road, Jaranwala road, GTS intersection, Kohinoor chowk, Railway Station chowk and Jhal Khanuana overhead bridge areas.

A big board fell on a rickshaw as a result of which Muhammad Yousaf died on the spot while his wife Safia and two daughters, Jaweria and Zaira, sustained injuries. Rickshaw driver Nawaz Ahmed also sustained wounds and his condition was stated to be critical in hospital.

In another incident, a publicity board fell on a rickshaw on Satiana road, critically injuring its driver Frances Masih.

Another billboard fell on a car on Jhal Khanuana overhead bridge and all riders remained unhurt.

Heavy rain lashed the city, paralyzing routine life and inundating low-lying areas. Power supply remained suspended throughout the day in People’s colony, Madina town, Batala colony, Civil Lines, Circular road, Jail road and Jinnah colony.

ELECTION ROW: An armed group opened fire on an election office here on Sunday in Chak 230-JB of Satiana, killing a nazim candidate supporter, Nazir Husain, on the spot.
