PESHAWAR: The railway authorities on Monday flattened a greenbelt the Peshawar Development Authority had set up on an area between a road and a railway track in the University Town here.

Officials said that the PDA had spent Rs21 million on building the greenbelt.

An official in the civic agency told Dawn that railway authorities on Monday rushed to the site and levelled the greenbelt. He said that though the railway had not issued a proper NOC for the greenbelt, the issue was taken up with them at the highest level. But the railway authorities acted in an inappropriate manner to flatten the greenbelt.

The official said the PDA had written to the relevant police station to register FIR against railway officials for causing huge losses to the civic authority by destroying the greenbelt.

“It was not some encroachment and the railway authorities should have contacted the civic agency instead of directly going there and leveling the greenbelt the PDA had set up at huge cost,” he said.
