KARACHI, Aug 19: Former city nazim Niamatullah Khan on Friday claimed that the local bodies’ elections in Karachi were totally engineered, a fraud and rigged. He alleged that in order to obtain its desired results, polling was still on in Karachi under the “supervision” of MQM’s ministers and legislators.

Speaking at a press conference at the Idara Noor-i-Haq, Mr Niamat observed that a conspiracy was being hatched to ruin the local government system. He expressed concern over the Election Commission’s notification to announce official results two days after the polls, saying it had made the results more dubious.

The former city nazim said political parties were being contacted and a strategy would be announced within a day to two. A white paper on rigging would also be issued soon.
