KARACHI: A policeman was martyred while a suspected robber was killed during an exchange of fire after a robbery in Ittehad Town on Monday night, police said.

Two gunmen had snatched a motorbike and other valuables from citizens and were fleeing when two policemen on patrol arrived at the crime scene.

On information provided by the robbery victims, the policemen chased the robbers and in an ensuing encounter at Khyber Chowk near The Citizens Foundation School, a policeman, Abdul Rehman Jatoi, 43, was martyred while a suspect was killed, said the West SSP. The suspect’s accomplice fled.

The martyred policeman was a ex-army man who joined the police after retirement. He hailed from Dokri.
