MNA among 17 booked in murder case

RAWALPINDI, Aug 17: A murder case has been registered against 17 people including MMA MNA Mohammad Hanif Abbasi after one of the persons injured in Tuesday’s armed clash between two political groups died in the District Headquarters hospital in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Shahrukh Majeed, a 16-year-old son of Abdul Majeed who is running for the slot of councillor, was wounded during the clash in Dhoke Khabba. He had received bullet injuries to the head and was admitted to the DHQ hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

Police are hunting for MMA MNA Hanif Abbasi, Haji Tahir Khan, a candidate for naib nazim in UC 43; and 15 others who had been booked by the Waris Khan police under Anti-Terrorist Act.

Sources told this reporter that during the ongoing manhunt, the police had so far made 28 arrests.

Malik Sabir Hussain, the father of Khizar Hayat who is running for the office of nazim, lodged a complaint with the Waris Khan police, saying that he along with other group members was present at the election office in Qasimabad when MNA Hanif Abbasi carrying a Kalashnikov; Haji Tahir Khan, a candidate for naib nazim, armed with a 12-bore repeater; Dr Khawaja Kashif, Zahir Ahmed Awan, Nadeem Shah, Javaid, Sardar Imran Aziz, Sajjad Ali Qureshi, Raja Nazeer, Adil Nazeer, Raja Walait, Syed Javaid Shah, Riaz Gujar, Dr Talib Shaheen, Raja Khalid Ghakhar, Mazher and Saleem appeared on the scene and started indiscriminate firing.
