FAISALABAD, Aug 17: Intelligence reports apprehend ‘bloody clashed’ in different areas of the Punjab between tense rivals on the ground of alleged vote fraud.
Sources said here on Wednesday that intelligence agencies had sent messages to the government and authorities concerned that due to ‘inadequate’ security arrangements and mudslinging campaign launched by the candidates against each other in lower tiers of local councils, there were strong chances of clashes.
“The candidates backed by the opposition parties are openly blaming the government and ruling party candidates for hijacking elections through pre-poll rigging,” sources said.
The agency reports, according to sources, also revealed that 98 residential localities in urban towns — Jinnah, Lyallpur, Madina and Iqbal — while 116 villages in Tandlianwala, Chak Jhumra, Jaranwala and Samundri have been declared as troubled spots by the government agencies.
They said the police and the administration was in serious trouble after the reports of shortage of polling staff because this negligence could create law and order problem.
Meanwhile, 792 of 32,091 polling stations have been declared highly sensitive by the police and other agencies during local bodies elections scheduled to be held on Aug 25 in 289 union councils.
The police and administrative functionaries have decided to make tight security arrangements.
Extra deployment would be made for the sensitive polling stations to avoid any untoward incident.
They have declared 54 polling stations in Nishatabad, 51 in Jaranwala, 50 in Thikriwala, 46 in Factory Area, 44 in Satiana, 48 in Lundianwala, 42 in Tandlianwala, 39 in Khurrianwala, 37 in Saddar, 37 in Ghulam Muhammadabad, 39 in Batala Colony, 30 in Peoples Colony, 27 in Civil Lines, 27 on Sargodha Road, 27 in Jhang Bazaar, 26 in Dijkot, 17 in Gulberg, 17 in D-Type Colony, 16 in Samundri Saddar, 16 in Samundri City, 12 in Tarkhani, nine each in Garah, Bahlak and Kotwali have been declared sensitive.
