OKARA, Aug 17: Former Punjab health minister Rana Ikram Rabbani has alleged that Federal Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal is abusing his authority to ensure election of his son to the Okara district nazim’s slot.

“We have filed a written complaint to the returning officer concerned,” he told a news conference at the Okara Press Club. Former PML-N provincial ticket holder Mian Muhammad Munir and the candidates for nazim and naib nazim’s offices, Chaudhry Muhammad Younis and Amanat Ali Bhola, accompanied him.

Mr Rabbani said the returning officer, Additional District and Sessions Judge Imtiaz Hussain, had sent a detailed report charging the defence minister with violating election code of conduct to the provincial and chief election commissioners.

He alleged that the minister wanted to get his son Atif Sikandar elected nazim unopposed, but he failed to do so and now he was attracting the public by making false promises.

Answering a question, Mr Rabbani said he would contest the election for the district nazim’s slot only if the ARD nominated him.
