KARACHI, Aug 16: Islamabad’s Muhammad Munir will defend his title in the 7th Sindh Open golf championship to be held at the Arabian Sea Country Club later this month.

Besides Munir, most of the other top professional golfers of the country would feature in the competition scheduled to be played from Aug 26 to 28.

The 54-hole championship sponsored by SGA would offer a prize purse of Rs500,000.

Munir won the 2004 edition of the Sindh Open while the runner-up was Imdad Hussain of Lahore. Shabbir Iqbal of Islamabad finished third followed by Tahir Naseem and Karachi’s Amjad Yousuf.

The winner in amateur category was Karachi youngster Mohammad Ali Hai with Shahid Javed Khan as the runner-up. Shahid would this year be featuring in the open event as he turned professional earlier this season.

The country’s top amateurs would join the three-day tournament that is counted among the leading events on the Pakistan Golf Federation’s (PGF) calendar.

It is expected that over 100 professionals from all over the country will participate in the event.

The championship will also be open to leading amateurs with a maximum handicap of 12.—PPI
