PESHAWAR, Aug 16: A local court granted bail here on Tuesday to a 35-year-old woman who gunned down a prayer leader who had allegedly intruded into her house at around 2am on Monday with evil intentions.

The masked prayer leader, Qari Ihsanullah, a resident of Tawoda Khazana in Daudzai area, barged into the house of rickshaw driver Nawab Khan who was not there at the time.

Nawab’s wife was sleeping in her courtyard along with her teenaged daughter and three other children. Ihsanullah tried to grab her. However, she shot him dead with a shotgun which she kept nearby for her protection.

A police party from the Daudzai police station arrived there and identified him as the prayer leader of a nearby mosque.

An FIR was registered against Ihsanullah at the Daudzai police station.

The woman told police that her husband was a rickshaw driver and often came late. She said that two nights ago a masked man had barged into her house and tried to attack her but when she started screaming for help he ran away immediately.

Police officials said that since the woman was found possessing a shotgun without a license, therefore a case under section 13 of the Arms Ordinance was registered against her.

She was produced before a judicial magistrate, Shah Hussein, on Tuesday and granted bail.
