SIALKOT, Aug 16: Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has taken a serious notice of alleged gang-rape of a student by six dacoits at her house in Jandiyala-Zafarwal village and sought a report from the Narowal DCO and DPO within three days.

The chief minister has also ordered a probe against negligence of the Zafarwal police team and directed the Narowal DPO to ensure immediate arrest of the culprits.

Meanwhile, the condition of the 15-year old student was stated to be critical at a Zafarwal hospital in Shakargarh tehsil.

According to reports, six armed men stormed into a landlord’s house at Jandiyala-Zafarwal village on the night between Aug 14 and 15, held up the inmates and started looting cash and valuables. As the landlord’s daughter resisted, the dacoits overpowered her and raped her at gunpoint.

They fled firing in the air with a bagful of valuables.

Earlier, the gang had plundered cash and gold ornaments worth hundreds of thousands of rupees from passengers of two wagons and several motorcyclists on the main Jandiyala-Zafarwal Road.

The gang-rape sparked violence as the people of the village, who alleged that the Zafarwal police officials insulted the complainants instead of taking action against the criminals, on Monday besieged the Zafarwal police station and blocked traffic on the main Zafarwal Road.

They attacked the official vehicles of the SHO and Narowal DSP while some of them locked two of the officials in a room. Several youths lay down in front of the police vehicles while chanting slogans against the law enforcers.

The protesters disbursed after hours on the assurance of some senior police officials that the culprits would be arrested soon.

Narowal SP (Investigation) Amjad Karim Butt told journalists on Tuesday that special teams were raiding various places to apprehend the culprits.

Meanwhile, the Zafarwal police have registered a case under section 395, 272/5 of PPC against the culprits.

BURIAL: The five members of a family, who were shot dead by their rivals the other day, were laid to rest at their native graveyard in Muzaffarpur-Uggoki area on Tuesday.
