KARACHI, Aug 15: Seven people died in four different road accidents in different parts of the city during the last 48 hours. Two women died and three others were injured in a road accident on the Super Highway on Sunday night.
Police said that Dr Saleem Raza, 40, was coming from Hyderabad in his car (AHF-076). They met with the accident near Nooriabad when a speeding trailer rammed into their car. As a result his wife, Parveen, and Afroze died on the spot. Dr Saleem and his daughters Aliza and Amber sustained injuries in the accident.
Police said that two motorcyclists were knocked down by a speeding water tanker in Korangi on Sunday evening. The victims identified as Sar Buland Khan and Salman Qureshi were rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
The water tankers fled following the accident, police said.
In another accident, a young man was knocked down by a speeding vehicle in the limits of the Boating Basin police station on Sunday night.
Police said the victim, a pedestrian, was hit by an unknown speeding vehicle. He could not be identified initially, police added.
In another but similar accident on Monday police said that an unknown man was hit by a speeding bus at Hyderi. Police said the victim was in his early 30s.
In yet another accident, Abdul Ghafoor Memon, 46, a resident of Agra Taj Colony, was killed while eight others of the same family were injured as their jeep collided head on with a truck coming from the opposite direction near Makli, Thatta, on Sunday evening. The family was heading back home from the Keenjhar Lake after picnic. The injured included Mohammad Hassan, Mariam and Usman Ghani.
SHOT DEAD: A police constable shot dead two women in Surjani Town on Sunday night.
Police said that Rashid Khan, posted in the Nazimabad police station, opened fire at Noor Jehan and Parveen in Yousaf Goth in Surjani Town. A boy, Muhammad Shahid, was also injured in the firing. Police have arrested the suspect and seized his official weapon used in the firing.
Police said deceased Parveen was daughter-in-law of Noor Jehan. Police are investigating the case.
