HYDERABAD, Aug 15: A woman inmate of the Darul Aman died under mysterious circumstances in the civil hospital here on Sunday morning.

The post-mortem examination of the woman, Kanwal Arain, who was expecting, was conducted at the civil hospital but the report has not been disclosed. The management of Darul Aman is maintaining silence on the incident and its in-charge, Kausar Zaman, is avoiding making any comment.

When contacted on her cellphone at 8pm, she said: “I cannot talk to you because a meeting is going on here.”

Reports said Ms Arain had been admitted to the hospital’s surgical ward on Aug 13 after she had suffered injuries. She had reportedly slipped on the upper storey of the building while trying to flee from the Darul Aman. Another report said she had slipped in a bathroom.

The DCO has appointed revenue EDO Abdul Sattar Jatto as the inquiry officer who has recorded statements of the Darul Aman staff.

The woman had been sent to the Darul Aman from Nawabshah. An unconfirmed report said she had come from India to marry a man who had ditched her.
