KARACHI, Aug 13: A close fight between three-year old filly, Patricia, and chestnut, King Of Kings, is on the cards to determine the winner of Independence Day Cup when the Summer Gymkhana race meeting takes place at Karachi racecourse on Sunday.

As many as five horses’ were in the field for the six furlongs fifth race of the afternoon named ‘Independence Day Cup’ which is restricted to Pakistani colts’ fillies of three-years

Owned by Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara, Patricia, performed two-in-a row on July 31 with jockey Muhammad Essa in the saddle while rider Waheed Baran piloted home Mr. Faisal Farooq’s King Of Kings in the last meeting on Aug 7.

All in all, nine races have been chalked out for the day. In addition to the Independence Day Cup, three more Cups The Kingree Lodge Performance Cup, The KRC Cup and The Lighting Stakes Cup will be at stake. The first race begins at 1.00 p.m.

A spokesman for the Karachi Race Club told Dawn on Saturday that an amount of approximately Rs.1,50,000 pertaining to the last two jackpots has been carried over for Sunday’s programme.

The management of KRC had introduced the jackpot on July 17 last month and a punter had pocketed Rest.26,000 in the very first attempt.

Meanwhile, the management of Karachi Race Club (KRC) on Saturday night hosted a dinner at its premises to commemorate country’s Independence Day in a befitting manner.

The dinner was largely attended by owners, trainers, book-makers, riders and horse racing fraternity.

The Karachi Racecourse has been tastefully decorated with colourful buntings and banners, for Sunday’s meeting.
