Income tax return filing deadline extended to December 31

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Monday extended the deadline for the filing of income tax returns for the tax year 2019 until December 31.

A notification issued by the FBR said the date of filing of total income/statements of final taxation for individuals and associations of persons for TY19, which were originally due on September 30, has been further extended until Dec 31.

The date of filing returns for companies which had paid 95 per cent of the admitted tax liability on or before Sept 30 has also been extended to Dec 31, the circular added.

Last month, the government had given an extension for filing tax returns until Dec 16.

The FBR has set a target of tax returns of four million for tax year 2019.

The board had received 2.51m tax returns for the first time in its history for TY18 as against 1.49m returns filed for TY17.

The last date for filing of income tax returns for tax year 2018 was extended eight times consecutively to facilitate individuals to file their returns.

A more effective way is to set a hard example of strict deadlines and swift repercussions for those who fail. That's how the rest of the world does it. Success metrics 4 million filings for a nation of 220+. Tough road ahead.

The guidelines need to be firm, there should be no letting up, if you don't pay taxes in time, you should pay a hefty fine, you can be extended time, only if you file for extension before the deadline, you keep extending the dates, people will eventually stop taking you seriously. Set examples, hold people and businesses accountable according to the laws and deadlines. This whole thing is too wishy washy.

No one cares about their dates, because they know it will be extended.Need to put harsh penalty for not filing on time and watch the result.

I have been dismayed by politics in the uk but after watching what’s going on in the USA l am glad of our political system looking at it from the outside l don’t understand you’re republican Party can constantly block any investigation into trumps suspicious dealing ie Russia. Ukraine tax returns if this happened in uk our primister would wouldn’t be allowed to refuse to hand over tax returns. I think the people in your government should forget their own self and think of their own benefit. I have always admired your constitution why are people being allowed to tear it to pieces l pray for your government both houses to see and repair the untold damage that’s been done to their credibility world by Their obedience to a man who broke so many laws and is more a dictator than the president of the United States of America
