LAHORE: Rank outsider bay filly, Rapunzel Beauty, landed the Dominator Cup, a term race for two-year-old thoroughbred and half-bred colts and fillies run over 1000 metres during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.

A maiden after three starts, the daughter of Dunhill Star out of Rapunzel, the Mohammad Afzal Trained filly, Rapunzel Beauty ridden by jockey Deenar Mirwani broke her maiden’s duck defeating 25 to 100 odds-on filly, Countess Maraa ridden by Aamir Pervez and trained by Shahid Rehman.

The winning filly, over took Countess Maraa, who after making a headway in the straight failed to make any serious impression in the final 50 metres to be beaten by two-and-a-half lengths. Chestnut filly, Innocent One finished third closely while bay filly, Dahab completed the frame among six runners left in the field after the last-minute withdrawal of bay filly, Sajni from the contest.

The winning owner Mohammad Ahsan Irfan received the cup from the Lahore Race Club (LRC) senior steward, Syed Pervez Hussain, who can rightly boast of being the most popular steward after polling the highest number 0f 29 votes n the recent LRC stewards elections and being the only Pakistani owner, on international racing circuit running race horses in England, Hong Kong and Macau.

Meanwhile the race-goers residing in some of the cantonment residential localities have complained that they have not been receiving the Dawn newspaper copies. When questioned the newspaper hawkers Former stewards, Fawad Ahmad Cheema and Saqibullah Khan Chamkani besides a dozen of race goers told this scribe that when questioned the newspaper hawkers had told them that they had been directed by the concerned authorities to avoid supply of Dawn newspaper. The step is somewhat confusing, they said.
