LAHORE: All Pakistan Private Schools Federation President Kashif Mirza was shot at and injured allegedly after armed men ambushed his car in Gulshan-i-Ravi on Saturday night.

Mr Mirza received bullet injuries on his arm and another part of his body and was rushed to a local hospital where his condition was stated to be stable.

According to initial police inquiries, he was going back home to Iqbal Town when six suspects on two motorbikes intercepted him at a traffic signal near Karim Block. Two of them opened fire and fled from the scene.

Police claimed that Mirza’s brother was in another car nearby and as he heard the gunshots he called police and Rescue 1122.

Iqbal Town Superintendent of Police (SP) retired Capt Muhammad Ajmal told Dawn that Mr Mirza received one bullet on his arm and another scratched his chest. His condition at the hospital was stable, he said, adding that Mirza told him he was receiving threats from some unidentified people. Upon inquiring if he had submitted a complaint to any police station against the threats, Mirza replied in the negative.

The SP said that from the information he obtained from Mirza, the attack seemed “mysterious”. He said he had also visited the crime scene and the direction the bullets were fired from also depicted some “other story”. Police collected 11 bullet shells from the spot.

However, police would lodge a case on the complaint of Mirza and leave it to the investigation police to determine the facts, he added.
