GILGIT: Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has expressed concern over non-implementation of the Supreme Court’s verdict on giving constitutional rights to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

He said due to the non-implementation of SC decision the GB Council and courts were non-functional, which is a matter of serious concern.

The PPP chairman said the reduction in federal budget for education had affected the students of GB the most putting the future of both the universities in GB in danger.

Bilawal Bhutto stated this while talking to a party delegation from GB, which called on him in Islamabad, according to a press release issued by the PPP media office here Wednesday.

The delegation consisted of former GB chief minister Mehdi Shah, local party president Amjad Ali Advocate, Jamil Ahmed, Sadia Danish, Shaukat Ali and Shah Sultan.

Bilawal Bhutto said political activist Baba Jan and others, who had been imprisoned for life, should be provided justice. He said campaign for the rights of property was according to the vision of PPP founder Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

The delegation informed the PPP chairman that a great number of people from GB would participate in the event in connection with the martyrdom anniversary of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in Rawalpindi.

The delegation also expressed concern over the health condition of former president Asif Zardari and demanded that his personal doctors should be given access to the ailing PPP leader.

CONTRABAND destroyed: The Pakistan Customs officials destroyed contraband and counterfeit products worth billions of rupees seized during the current year at Sost dry port the other day.

The seized items included liquor, mobile phones, batteries, telephone sets, medicines and other items smuggled from China.

FBR member customs (operations) Dr Jawwad Uwais Agha, chief collector north Dr Asif Mahmood Jan, collector GB Tahir Qureshi, additional collector Shahid Jan, and other officials were present on the occasion.
