TIMERGARA: The Lower Dir administration in collaboration with the district sports’ department and Special Abilities Development Association (SADA), an organisation working for uplift of special persons, arranged the first deputy commissioner ‘wheelchair cricket tournament’ on the premises of the Timergara Rest House on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Monday.

This year theme of the day is ‘Future is Accessible’.

Deputy commissioner Saadat Hassan inaugurated the event during a colourful function.

PTI MNA Syed Mehboob Shah, MPAs Hamayun Khan, Shafiullah Khan and district sports officer Bakhat Shah Zeb Khan were also present.

Three teams, the Peshawar Zalmi, Bajaur Gulona and Dir Tigers, participated in the wheelchair cricket tournament. Two international players, who were members of the team that won the Asian Cup by defeating India in Nepal recently, also participated in the tournament.

The Dir Tigers won the event by defeating the Peshawar Zalmi in the final.

The deputy commissioner and others distributed trophies and cash prizes among the winning and runner-up teams.

WALK AGAINST DRUG USE: The district administration on Monday organised a walk at Munda to create awareness against drug use.

The Youth Working against Drug Abuse Pakistan, a private entity, collaborated with the district administration to organise the walk.

Samarbagh assistant commissioner Mohsin Salahuddin, while speaking to the participants, said it was their moral and religious responsibility to avoid the scourge of narcotics and drugs. He said unfortunately the young educated generation was falling prey to the menace.

SCHOOL RECONSTRUCTED: PTI MNA Bashir Khan has said the government plans to construct at least six classrooms in each government primary school in order to provide conducive learning environment to children.

He was addressing a function after inaugurating the newly-constructed building of government higher secondary school, Samarbagh, constructed at a cost of Rs28.2 million by Hamqadam Pakistan, a private entity.

The MNA asked the teachers to impart quality education to pupils, saying the government would provide all missing facilities to the state-run schools.
