KARACHI, Aug 11: The Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre, University of Karachi, will introduce postgraduate diplomas in Islamic Economics and Islamic Law. This was stated by the director of the centre, Prof Dr Khalilur Rahman, here on Thursday.

He said the curriculum of the one-year diplomas in these disciplines was under preparation and the classes would commence from January 1 next.

Dr Rahman informed that the KU vice-chancellor, also the chairman of the board of governors of the centre, had already accorded approval for the initiation of these courses.

Approval has also been given by the joint advisory committee of the Government of Pakistan and the Shaikh Zayed Trust which oversees Shaikh Zayed Centres at Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar, he added.

Dr Rahman pointed out that admission to the diploma courses would be given on the basis of open merit. He said in all 30 candidates would be accommodated in each of the two courses.

Graduates with at least second division are eligible to apply for the said courses, Dr Rahman informed.—APP
