HYDERABAD: Sindh Cul­ture Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah has said that legendary figures like Watayo Faqir of Tando Allahyar always remain alive in history; he is present among people even today.

He said the Faqir always stood for the truth and devoted his entire life for this, adding that he was a historic figure and his ideology needed to be promoted among people today.

The minister was speaking at the urs of Watayo Faqir here on Friday which was celebrated at the official level by the district administration for the first time.

He said that the fables of Watayo Faqir were popular across the world as they had a message for people at large.

He announced that the Sindh government would declare official holiday to mark urs celebration of Watayo Faqir next year.

He said the culture department would gather more information about him so that people might know about his life and works.

He said Watayo Faqir’s fables were relevant even today; they were pride of Sindhis.

He said Watayo Faqir had to use his sense of humour to make people understand the truth of life. He said he was from among the chosen people of God.

Noted researchers and writers who also spoke on the occasion included Abdul Qadir Mangi, Agha Zafar Miskeen, Syed Murtaza Shah, Dr Shafqat Abbasi, Ishaque Samejo, Miskeen Samoon, Dr Asad Jamal Palli and others.

They said the life of Watayo Faqir could lead people in the right direction as his fables contained knowledge and wisdom.

The district administration of Tando Allahyar organised urs celebrations at Shah Latif Park. Hyderabad Commissioner Mohammad Abbas Baloch, DIG Naeem Shaikh, Tando Allahyar Deputy Commi­ssioner Rasheed Zar­d­ari and SSP Rukhsar Ahmed Khuhawar laid a wreath on his shrine.
