PESHAWAR, Aug 10: A woman member of the district council, Shahmim Qaisar Khan, has expressed concern over shortage of water in some localities of the city and asked the authorities concerned to take measures to solve the problem.

In a statement here on Wednesday, she said non-availability of water in Shaheen Town, Sufaid Dheri, Academy Town, Muzafarabad and other localities has been creating problems for people for the past five days.

Ms Khan, who is also a member of the organizing committee of the Awami National Party (ANP), said that the Town-III administration had failed to redress problems despite repeated requests by the inhabitants of these localities.

“In this hot season, children and the elderly are the worst hit because of lack of water. People have been fetching water in buckets from far-off places, which does not fulfil their needs,” she said.

According to her, the poor people paid huge bills for water to the Town-III administration but were not getting enough water to perform ablution or cook food.

She said that since the termination of the tenure of nazims and councillors, the administration had started playing with the lives of the people.

“The officials of district council and towns are sitting in air-conditioned offices while people are suffering for want of basic amenities,” she deplored.

She asked NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani to immediately order the official concerned to ensure water supply to the stricken areas.
