KOHAT, Aug 10: Police on Wednesday recovered a kidnapped jeweller in an operation carried out in an area along the Kohat-Orakzai Agency border and arrested one of the captors.

ASP Kareem Khan told a press conference that the motorcycle of Haji Baksh, a jeweller who was kidnapped early on Monday, was found abandoned near the abode of suspected elements. The recovery led to the arrest of a suspect, Jehanzeb, who told police about the whereabouts of his gang and the victim, he said, adding that Jehanzeb was left behind in Kohat to negotiate ransom with the family of the kidnap victim.

The ASP said that a team under DIG Abdul Majeed Marwat raided a place near the Kohat-Orakzai border. The gang released the victim in return for safe passage to the tribal area. The police agreed to ensure the safety of the kidnap victim, the ASP said.

Haji Baksh said that he was stopped on the old Peshawar Road by four armed men who first took him to the Ublan refugee camp and then towards the Orakzai Agency. He said the kidnappers tortured him whenever he requested them to free even on payment of ransom.
