KARACHI, Aug 10: Various parts of the city either went dry or received scant supply for the second consecutive day on Wednesday owing to a shortfall of over 163 mgd which occurred in the wake of Monday-Tuesday night’s prolonged power failure at the KWSB’s major water installations.

Most of complaints have been received from Landhi, Korangi, Malir, Saudabad, Khokarapar, Shah Faisal Colony, Mehmoodabad, Akhtar Colony, Defence Housing Authority, parts of Old City Area and Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s Block 4-A (Journalists’ Society).

Residents complained that in the absence of piped water they had no choice but to either consume sub-soil unhygienic water at the cost of their health or purchase private tankers at exorbitant rates.

Admitting that overall water supply position of various localities has not yet normalized, an official of the KWSB said though the pumping of water from all the major pumping stations – Dhabeji, Pipri, Gharo and North-East-Karachi —, has resumed, it will take another day to offset the shortfall of over 163 mgd.

Complaints of persisting water shortage have also been received from Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s Block 4-A (Journalists’ Society).

A resident of the society complained that although water shortage problem in different parts of the city had occurred on Tuesday, his locality is without water for the last three days.
