I WRITE this letter to express my deep concern over the environmental pollution a petrochemical factory will create in the surrounding areas. This area is considered the rice bowl of the country. It contributes a major portion of food grain to the central pool. The factory will emit poisonous smoke, playing havoc with the paddy fields resulting in less produce.

The farmers whose land is being acquired by the factory have already shown their resentment. This will also result in increasing the number of unemployed people.

Moreover, the farmers will lose their source of livelihood, as their land is the only source of it.

I appeal to the government to reconsider its decision when we are celebrating the Year of the Environment throughout the world under the UN auspices.
