PESHAWAR, Jan 15: The provincial minister for Auqaf and social welfare, Qari Roohullah Madani, warned the social welfare officials that the department would be wound up if they failed to improve their performance.

He was presiding the annual meeting of the district officers of social welfare and community development department here on Monday.

The minister said that social welfare department was one of the important departments of 12 sectors devolved to the district government that take care for people’s welfare. Hence, he added, the district officers must highlight the importance of this department to the district Nazimeen and the DCOs, and should endeavour to establish various welfare centres in each and every district. Elaborating, he said that rehabilitation centres for the addict, the handicapped and the helpless, and computer and handicraft centres should be set up with active participation of the Nazimeen.

He directed the officials to streamline their performance and bring transparency to their working, which, he added, would resolve many problems by itself.

The meeting decided to shift the inactive addicts rehabilitation centre of Buner to Timergara. Social Welfare Secretary Jameel Amjad and other officials attended the meeting.
