HYDERABAD, Aug 8: Haq Parast group candidates who were elected unopposed in the second phase of the local body elections have expressed the hope that their group will win the polls in the district.

They were speaking at a press conference at the press club here on Monday. Those who spoke at the press conference included union council-9 naib nazim-elect (according to unofficial result) Mujahid, union council-14 nazim-elect Arshad Naeem and naib nazim-elect Mohammad Saleem Shaikh, union council-17 nazim-elect Mohammad Ali Gohar and naib nazim-elect Qazi Mohammad Aslam. The nazim-elect UC-9 Raheel Qaimkhani was indisposed. Sixty-two minority and women councillors were also present.

Mr Gohar, former union council-14 nazim, blamed the outgoing district government for poor sanitary conditions in the city. He claimed that former district government representatives had not built roads and streets in their areas.

He said his group’s priorities were improvement of the sanitation system, road infrastructure and drinking water supply system according to approved health standards and establishment of recreational resorts.
