Student seeks governor’s help

PESHAWAR, Aug 8: A student has appealed to the governor to look into the matter of his admission to the Islamia College Peshawar. “I had applied for an admission on the seat reserved for Hafiz-i-Quran. The committee concerned of the college gave me 20 marks and recommended my admission,” said Azizur Rehman, a resident of Rustam village, Mardan district, at a news conference here on Saturday.

Mr Rehman said he had qualified the entry test on open merit, but when he went to the college to deposit admission fee, a clerk had asked him to deposit fee for a self-finance seat.

“I borrowed Rs40,000 to pay for the self-finance seat to save my time,” Mr Aziz said. However, when he lodged a complaint with the principal, he told Mr Rehman that the institution had declared him passed in the entry test mistakenly.

He showed the certificate given by the committee conducting test for Hafiz-i-Quran.

The student said that though the prospectus mentioned that the committee’s decision would be final, but in his case, it had been amended with a single stroke of pen.

“The principal snatched the certificate from me and blanked out the word ‘passed’ and gave it me back”, he said.

Mr Rehman said he belonged to a poor family and could not afford the expenses on self-finance basis for two years. He has already sent a letter in this regard to the vice chancellor a week ago.

He asked Governor Khalilur Rehman to order a probe into the matter and provide him justice to help continue his studies.
