PESHAWAR: The Anti-Narcotics Force on Monday seized 71 kilogrammes of charas and 12kg opium and arrested three smugglers.

They were named Hashim Khan, Rehman Shah, and Subhanullah, residents of Jumrud tehsil of Khyber tribal district.

An ANF spokesman said the police had registered a case and started further investigations.

Also, the excise, taxation and narcotics control department recovered 6,000 gram of opium from a car near the motorway interchange on Monday. However, the smuggler managed to flee leaving the vehicle behind.

The relevant officials signaled a car to stop near the motorway interchange. But, the driver accelerated the car and managed to escape on foot after leaving the vehicle on road.

Upon search, the excise, taxation and narcotics control personnel recovered 6,000 gram opium from secret cavities of the car.

Meanwhile, the Excise Intelligence Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday foiled a bid to smuggle arms from KP to Punjab by intercepting a suspected vehicle during checking on Mardan-Malakand Road.

During search, arms, including 11 rifles, 104 9mm and 30-bore pistols and 2,500 rounds were recovered.

The excise police also nabbed the car driver, Ibrar, resident of Malakand and registered FIR in the Mardan city police station.
