HYDERABAD, Jan 15: The school children and social workers, under the banner of Sindh Development Society, Al-Falah Samaji Tanzeem, Sehrish Nagar Welfare Association and National Commission for Justice and Peace, staged a rally against child labour here on Tuesday.

Speaking at the rally, Ilyas Khokhar, Ghaffar Malik and Mehboob Abro called upon the government and civil society to protect children’s rights.

They urged the government to fulfil its responsibility towards children and the civil society to contribute towards protecting the rights of children and women.

PPP leader Comrade Jam Saqi said that the laws relating to unlawful labour were being violated. He added if the laws could not be implemented, they should be scrapped from the statute books.

He suggested that the education budget should be increased by 100 per cent by reducing the defence budget.

Labour leader Mohammad Iqbal Kaimkhani assured support of the labour unions to protect the rights of the children.

The speakers regretted that the children were being subjected to unlawful labour and they were paid low ages.

They termed it a tragedy that the children who should attend schools were being forced to work.

NEWSPAPER SELLERS: The president of All Pakistan Akhbar Farosh Federation, Syed Afzal Ahmed Shah, has thanked the Balochistan Governor Ameerul Mulk Mengal for allotting the squash court in the premises of Quetta municipal corporation for newspaper market.
