SUKKUR, Aug 6: Hundreds of residents of Bashirabad, Military Road, Bachal Shah Miani, Shaikh Mohalla and other areas held a protest demonstration against Hesco on Saturday.
They threatened to stage a sit-in on the Sukkur bypass and block the road if power supply to their areas was not restored in 24 hours.
Led by Ghulam Hussain, Ghulam Haider and Arbab Ali, the protestors took out a procession and staged a sit-in near Bachal Shah Miani for two hours.
They said their areas were without electricity for the last 10 hours but Hesco officials had done nothing to restore the power supply.
When contacted, Hesco officials said five electricity poles and high-tension lines had fallen near the Rice Canal after a truck had collided with the poles. They said company officials were repairing the poles and the power supply to the areas would be restored in six to seven hours.
