KHAR: The students of all three colleges in Bajaur tribal district have threatened to launch a protest movement against delay in awarding annual scholarships to them.
Addressing a joint press conference here the other day, the leaders of students of Government Postgraduate College Khar, Government Degree College Nawagai and Government Degree College Barkholozo said that they would launch protest movement if scholarships were not awarded to them till Monday.
They said that the federal government-funded annual scholarships for the students of tribal districts that had been regularly awarded to them till first week of May every year were not released to the students of Bajaur tribal district.
They said that the scholarships were awarded to the students of other tribal districts besides the students to Government College of Management Sciences and Government College of Technology in Bajaur some five months ago.
The student leaders said that they would launch an impressive protest movement if the annual scholarships were not released till Monday.
FUNCTION: Speakers at a function criticised the government for not taking steps for the welfare of persons with disabilities in the region.
The function was organised by All Bajaur Disabled Persons Association in connection with World Sight Day here the other day. Social activists and persons with disabilities attended the function in a large number.
However, no official of the district administration or representative of any political and religious party attended the event.
All Bajaur Disabled Persons Association president Bakhtawar Jan, general secretary Hamzaullah, Khan Sardar, Liaquat Khan and Jan Wali spoke on the occasion.
They said that the more than 7,000 persons with disabilities were registered in Bajaur tribal district.
The speakers said that persons with disabilities in the district were facing a lot of problems as neither government nor district administration was taking steps for their welfare.
They said that the previous PML-N government had announced several years ago to improve the living standard of persons with disabilities by establishing a number of technical and skill centres in the district.
