Sri Lanka outclass Pakistan by 35 runs to claim T20 series in Lahore

Sri Lanka stunned Pakistan by 35 runs in the second Twenty20 international in Lahore on Monday.

The visitors had set a target of 183 runs for Pakistan to save the series, but the hosts were bowled out for 147 with one over to spare.

Rajitha sent Fakhar Zaman (6 runs) back to the pavilion while Pradeep took the wicket of Babar Azam (3 runs) in the third and fourth overs, respectively. The eighth over of the innings was the most disastrous for the host team as Hasaranga dismissed Ahmed Shehzad (13), Umar Akmal (0) and skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed (26) on the third, fourth and sixth ball of the over.

Udana took the wicket of Imad Wasim (47) in the 16th over, while Pradeep sent Wahab Riaz (7) back on the last ball of the 17th over. Udana also dismissed Shadab Khan (0) on the first ball of the 18th over while Pradeep sent Asif Ali (29) and Mohammad Hasnain (1) away in the 19th over.

Earlier, Bhanuka Rajapaksa smacked an aggressive maiden half-century as the visitors made 182-6 against Pakistan.

The 27-year-old left-hander, playing only his second T20I, blasted 77 off 48 balls in an innings featuring six sixes and four boundaries after Sri Lanka won the toss and batted.

Rajapaksa added 94 for the third wicket with Shehan Jayasuriya, who made a 28-ball 34 with four boundaries.

Sri Lanka kept the same team which upset Pakistan, the world's number one T20 team, in the first match by 67 runs on Saturday.

The Green Shirts, who had never lost a T20 series in six attempts to Sri Lanka before today, brought in paceman Wahab Riaz and opener Fakhar Zaman in place of Iftikhar Ahmed and Faheem Ashraf.

The third and final match will be played at the same venue on Wednesday.

The Era of Inzamam was the hardest for Pakistan without International Cricket at home and unprecedented international political, economic challenges. Honest Inzamam steered Pakistan cricket to great heights despite all these With Waseem around cricket again, only the corruption, incompetence and unfairness will root in. The old failed and tainted cricketers are back. The moral of the team will be nose-diving, and Pakistan will return to the struggling status of Waseems’s captaincy. Mesbah and Sharfarz are straight people but they both are undone by Waseem’s influence

As for Pakistan, the new era under Misbah-ul-Haq hasn't begun well and some of the objectionable selections will now be on the firing line. To be honest, the hosts' bowling and fielding in the series has been well below-par and it's cost them dearly. By the way, this is Sri Lanka's first ever T20I series win over Pakistan.

Pakistani fans can't accept the simple truth, that the only reason Pakistan is no.1 in T20s is cause most teams don't take this format seriously unless its WT20. Most teams rest their main players in bilateral series and rest them for big ICC events.

Well played Srilanka. Criticism should nit be done. The pak team should be left alone to think to play cricket. The team seemed panicked specially Sarfaraz. In both the games the team was in panic and stress. It was a good series and a good sign that international cricket returned to pakistan. Players have to keep their calm and play cricket according to a plan. Bowling should be done done according to the field placement. We think that Mr. Misbah should have a professional perspective in choosing the pakistan team . we should be able to select players who are suitable for the game that is being played like there should be players for t20. ODI. and test matches. All 3. Categories are different in style and way if playing. Players should be grouped respectively and then players who are in form can be used when needed . it needs time and Mr. Misbah should not hurry but should get true and professional opinions from other professionals and decide what to do. Sarafar goes till he drops a few pounds and passes real fitness test. Umar plays PSL rest of his life. Imam gets a recall not because of perchi but a chance to prove he can open a T20 and use the power play. Amir needs to be warned - he dropped out of tests to focus on odi and t20. But he needs to be a real threat to opposition. At this point even the d list Sri Lanka team is not scared of him. Other younger players get a fixed set of chances guaranteed so they can play fearlessly. Misbah gets a 2 year milestone to hit with specific targets and goals. He is the selector and the coach. He has all powers to make proper decisions. he will be solely responsible. We believe he will be good in long term. But it’s not a limitless license to fail. PSL level needs to be increased along with other domestic cricket events. Don’t worry about showing to the world that PSL is great like IPL. Just focus on our own qualities in the limited scope and resources that we have.

Whatever said and done, Akmal is an impact player in T 20. He should be promoted up in the order and given atleast 5 matches. This is the way, Dhoni groomed Kohli when he was not at his best. By dropping him, Pakistan will drop a match winner.

It seems new Cheif Selector-cum-Coach failed in his first T20 series before World Cup T20. AS and UA still getting chances to prove that they are good cricketers as they debut in 2009. While in the same period, players debut like Kohli(2008), Rohit (2007), Root (2012), Smith (2010), Warner (2009), and Williamson (2010) are the World leading/top-ranked batsman. Our cricket board and management trying the same players again and again. Also in new faces except for Babar Azam, no consistent performance from bowling and batting unit. No standards in players' performance and fitness, no competition among players for a particular role, no proper selection, retention, player development policy, even no tenure for the captain, PCB announce captain before for every series. We, spectators, understand and identifiy these problems, why the officials who are getting high salaries and perks to manage the cricket affairs, can't understand and fix it for once in Pakistan cricket.

Ahmed Shehzad and Umer Akmal in the team; it is no rocket science why Pakistan lost second T20. With such selections, Pakistan would be hot favourite to lose many matches.

The T20 series was fixed between Pakistan and Sri Lanka due to Sri Lanka auto qualification for the T20 World Cup 2020 if the Sri Lankan had lost this series then they will have to play a qualifying round for the T20 World Cup 2020 Pakistan needs money to stabilize the country economy losing a series will not affect on Pakistan's ICC rankings but earning money will stabilize the country economy.

We can change all the coaches and selectors in the world but nothing will ever change until Pak cricket sincerely focuses on improving their overall physical fitness of its players e.t.c. Also I understand at times you give players a chance to make a comeback on the team but it should never be at the expense of other more talented and consistent players like Harris Sohail. He is a must in ODI & T20 format for Pak. The main reason Pak was able to make a comback in WC19!

Wrong coach Wrong selection ( clear favoritism) Wrong captain Expecting the right result from so many wrongs. Haris sohail n baber azam are backbones right now. U r experimenting even with them. Surely to make a new team for a new era needs new players..if u stick with old horses awaiting may be they perform..We need a new captain..we need a new platform..poor decision from PCB to make Misbah incharge of everything. Its subject to fail everyone know before hand. Glimpse has already shown.
