THATTA, Aug 4: Former legislators and leaders of the People’s Party Parliamentarians from Thatta have demanded that local body elections be conducted under the supervision of army.

Speaking at a press conference here on Thursday, former MNAs Babu Ghulam Hussain Memon, Haji Usman Jalbani, former MPAs Dr Abdul Wahid Soomro, Ghulam Qadir Palijo and Arbab Wazir Memon said fair and impartial polls could only be held under the supervision of the army.

They said the candidates of the ruling party were having services of the district administration at their disposal.

Meanwhile, MNA Ayaz Shah Shirazi of the PML said by demanding army’s involvement in the polls, the PPP was paving the way to escape from elections.

He said owing to untiring services of the Shirazis, the people of the district were with them which was evident of the interest it was taking in polls.
