LAHORE, Oct 14: The city government launched an operation against the sellers of metallic wire, nylon string and chemical thread on Sunday.
District Naib Nazim Farooq Amjad Meer along with union councils Nazims and local police raided Mochi Gate, Bhati Gate, Akbari Mandi and Rang Mahal. These areas have a number of shops of kite traders.
During the operation, many shopkeepers escaped after locking their shops. Muhammad Saleem was caught while selling nylon string at his Mochi Gate shop and was handed over to police.
On the occasion, Mr Meer urged the area people to cooperate with the authorities in identifying the irresponsible kite sellers.
UC Nazim Mian Shahzad announced a cash prize of Rs1,000 for the person who would report against the sale of nylon string or metallic wire in the jurisdiction of the council.
Mr Meer directed the union council Nazims to prepare a list of these shops and conduct raids at night to check the sale of prohibited strings.
