KARACHI: Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed inaugurated a new freight train, Pak NLC Express, to run from Karachi to Lahore at the Cantonment Railway Station here on Thursday, in collaboration with the National Logistics Cell (NLC).

On the occasion, the federal minister said that freight traffic in the country had doubled in the first year of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government while passenger traffic by eight million. He vowed to increase the speed of passenger trains to 200km per hour.

He said the Main Line-2 project would also start with the Main Line-1 project. He showed a desire to launch a new signal system on the railway lines soon.

Earlier, the minister visited the new train’s washing line and declared it open.
