PESHAWAR, Aug 2: The Pakistan Muslim League (Constitutional Group) has fielded over 200 candidates, including 50 women, in the local body polls. This was stated by the group’s provincial president Zakaria Khan at a news conference here on Tuesday.

On the occasion, Kark district organizer of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) Bakht Bibi announced that she had joined the group.

“We are not going to create a rift in the party but want to raise voice about giving due respect to our party workers by the PML-N leadership,” said Mr Khan.

He announced that Ms Bibi had been appointed provincial chief of the women’s wing of the group to organize it.

He said that Amir Muqam had been nominated the PML-N’s provincial chief without fulfilling the constitutional requirements and added: “We will extend support to the party’s leadership if it holds party elections.”

He said that his group had fielded 205 candidates in the local body polls, including 45 for nazim’s slots and 160 for general councillor’s seats.

Mr Khan claimed that he had been offered the post of the provincial senior vice-president of the ruling PML which he had turned down.

He said that they would continue the struggle to run the PML in line with the provisions of its constitution.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms Bibi accused the PML-N of ignoring her ‘despite the fact that she has rendered sacrifices for the party’.

She said that she would focus on the efforts to bring the women in mainstream politics so that they could effectively play their role in national politics.

“I will spare no effort to raise voice for the rights of the women,” she added.
