RAWALPINDI, Aug 2: Deputy High Commissioner and Director Trade of British High Commission (BHC) Hamish Daniel visited the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) here on Tuesday and held discussions on Pak-UK trade with the office- bearers and members of the chamber.

Hamish Daniel was accompanied by Jason Lansdale, Second Secretary and Hammad Siddique, Senior Trade and Investment Officer of the British High Commission.

Mr Daniel said Pakistan had a lot of attraction for the investors and traders of the United Kingdom since a very low cost was involved in launching and running a business in Pakistan.

He said there was also potential for enhancing Pakistan-UK trade and the traders from Rawalpindi region should come forward to tap such opportunities. He rated textile sector as the most potent sector of Pakistani economy. he said there was no visa policy change in the post 7/7 scenario for the traders.

Earlier, welcoming Mr Daniel, RCCI President Najam Rehan said Pakistanis were equally aggrieved on the 7/7 terrorist attacks. “Pakistanis can feel the pain of the British nation, as Pakistan has also been a victim of terrorism since long,” he said.

He said such terrorist activities should be condemned collectively and hoped that terrorist attacks won’t affect Pakistan-UK relations.

“Swelling foreign exchange reserves, stable exchange rates, low interest rates, improved credit rating by international agencies and decision to say good bye to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are all very positive indicators and the government of Pakistan deserves all praise for having performed so well,” he said.

He said it was a matter of fact that Pakistani traders felt far more comfortable in dealing with their counterparts from the UK than any other nation. He said Pakistanis were highly encouraged by the announcement of the British High Commission that there would not be any change in the visa policy.
