KARACHI: Power failure in city

Published August 3, 2005

KARACHI, Aug 2: Some areas of the city faced power disruption after power supply from Wapda was affected as under-frequency occurred on the national grid on Tuesday night.

The areas affected included the Defence Housing Society, Clifton, Korangi, societies, etc. Power supply in these areas got disrupted at around 9pm.

Heavy rains that have lashed Hyderabad and its adjoining areas in the interior of the province are said to be the reason for the disruption.

Owing to this brief disruption in power supply, certain KESC grid stations, due to their in-built safety mechanism, tripped off in the city. These have to be turned on manually.

The power supply to many of the affected areas was normalized in an hour or so while it remained disrupted to some areas till late night.

Responding to Dawn’s queries, the KESC spokesperson said their staff had already started manual turning-on of the grid stations and it would be completed in an hour or so, after which power supply to the entire city would be normalized, he added.
