SHIKARPUR: A man and a woman were killed in an armed clash between two groups near Abdul Ghani Qambrani village, officials at the Dilawar Marfani police station of Shikarpur district said on Tuesday.

They said Rano Essani was working on farms in the village when some members of the Qambrani community having claim on the land raised objection. After a heated argument between other members of the Essani and Qambrani communities, the two sides took up guns and fought a battle.

Rano Essani, 35, and a woman, Arbeli Qambrani, 40, sustained fatal bullet wounds in the clash. The bodies were handed over to the heirs after a post-mortem examination performed at the Garhi Yasin Taluka Hospital.

Armed men of the two communities took up positions at the entry/exit points of the village in self-defence as police did not intervene to restore law and order till late in the evening.
