GHALANAI: A woman was killed and three children were injured in an explosion inside a house in Ghalanai, the district headquarters of Mohmand tribal district, on Monday.

Ghalanai police station SHO Sardar Hussain said that the incident occurred in the house of an Afghan refugee namely Akbar Khan.

He said that the Afghan national was doing business of scrap. The police officer said that the blast occurred when three scavenger boys brought bags of scrap to the house for sale. He said that as soon as the woman opened the bags some explosives inside them went off with a bang. He said the scrap bags might have contained some old shell. As a result of the blast, he said the woman and three children got injuries.

According to the locals, the house caught fire after the blast which created panic in the area.

Soon after the incident, the personnel of police and Khasadar force rushed to the site and shifted the injured to the district headquarters hospital, Ghalanai, for treatment. After the first aid, the injured were shifted to a major hospital in Peshawar, where the wounded woman, identified as wife of Akbar Khan, succumbed to her injuries.

The condition of the three injured children identified as Abuzar Khan, Atewa and Ihtesham is stated to be out of danger.
