QUETTA: Member of the Balochistan Assembly Mir Zahid Reki has lashed out at the provincial government for not implementing development schemes in his Washuk district.

Speaking at a press conference here on Friday, the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) MPA said he had no knowledge about the status of uplift projects in his district he had proposed in the 2019-20 annual development programme.

“Washuk is one of the poorest districts in Balochistan. I confess I am not aware of any work in my constituency. Nor has the provincial government headed by Jam Kamal Khan Alyani carried out development works in the constituency,” he regretted.

He said he had protested on the floor of the Balochistan Assembly and demanded due rights of his district, but the chief minister had ignored it. “To punish me, the provincial government is venting its anger on the people of Washuk for voting me.”

The JUI-F leader alleged that the government was openly interfering in the affairs of his constituency which was undemocratic and unconstitutional. “I have been elected by the people of Washuk and it is my responsibility to serve them now. But unfortunately, the provincial government is usurping the mandate of the people of Washuk which is unacceptable.”

Mr Reki said he had written numerous letters to the chief minister and chief secretary, seeking their attention to the matter, but nothing had happened. “Against the backdrop of these injustices, it is decided after discussing it with the people and tribal notables of Washuk that we will stage a sit-in on the CPEC road at Basima if our demands are not met and interference in my district is not stopped,” he warned.
