KHAIRPUR, Aug 1: On all 13 seats in the Jubo union council, Nara taluka, including nazim and naib nazim, candidates of the Khairpur Dost Panel have been elected unopposed. No ADP candidate had filed nomination forms in the union council.

In different union councils of the district, candidates on four seats of Muslim general, seven Muslim women, two seats of peasant-workers, 16 seats of peasant-workers women and 12 seats of minorities have returned unopposed.

PPP: People’s Party Parliamentarians MNA Manzoor Wassan and MPA Nawab Wassan have said a dangerous situation prevailed in the district regarding the local body elections.

They said the contest of ADP candidates was not with the PML-F backed candidates but with the police and the government machinery.

They said the DCO house was the centre of vindictive acts against the ADP candidates.

Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, they said a brother of candidate for the post of nazim of Bhafo union council, Jamaluddin tapedar, has been suspended.

They said police were conducting raids to arrest candidates for the post of nazim of the Jiskani union council, Khalid Abbas Jiskani, and others.

They said ADP candidates for the seat of nazim and naib nazim from the Kotdiji taluka have been given deadline of Aug 3 to withdraw from election.

They called upon the chief election commissioner and the president to take notice of the situation.

PPP legislators said employees of the district police are being pressurized to compel their relative ADP candidates to withdraw from polls.
