PESHAWAR, July 31: Acting Chief Election Commissioner Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar on Sunday announced election schedule for various tiers of four union councils in Mansehra district in the light of a judgment of the Peshawar High Court of July 27.
Elections in the Icherian, Battal, Chattar Plain and Hilkot union councils were postponed after a man challenged in the Peshawar High Court the delimitation through which a new UC had been created in the area.
The writ was accepted and elections in the area will be held on Aug 25.
According to the schedule, nomination papers shall be received from Aug 8 to Aug 10, objections can be made on Aug 12 and appeals against acceptance or rejection of papers can be filed by Aug 15. The appeals will be disposed of on Aug 16.
Applications for withdrawal from the contest will be received on Aug 17 and the list of candidates with symbols will be announced on Aug 18. Polling will be held on Aug 25 and the results will be declared on Aug 27.
The Election Commission has made it clear that the candidates who had filed nomination papers earlier for the elections in the previous five union councils need not file fresh papers and they should only make correction in the nomination form of the name of the union council where required.
