HYDERABAD, July 31: The director-general of the Hyderabad Development Authority has directed the managing-director of the Water and Sanitation Agency and all executive engineers concerned to keep all pumping stations and dewatering machinery ready to combat rain emergency.

A recent meeting of senior officers of HDA and WASA reviewed in detail existing arrangements for rainwater disposal and related issues.

The DG said heavy rains were expected during the next 36 hours and therefore, all pumping stations and dewatering machinery should be kept ready to combat rain emergency.

He said all open manholes should be covered immediately and a proper coordination should be maintained with Hesco to ensure uninterrupted power supply for expeditious disposal of rainwater.

DEMO: A large number of farmers whose lands are located on the Tando Saeed Khan Massu minor staged a demonstration outside the press club.

They raised slogans against the irrigation officials. They were protesting against the acute shortage of water in the minor.

Speaking on the occasion, Jehangir Kaka said flood-like situation existed in the country but not a drop of water was available in Sindh’s Tando Saeed Khan Massu minor.

He said the SDO had created an artificial water shortage in the minor. He said crops worth millions of rupees were being destroyed.
