BERLIN: Goals from Timo Werner and Yussuf Poulsen in each half gave RB Leipzig a 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday and maintained their perfect start to the season.

Germany international Werner, who had also scored in their league opener last week, signed a contract extension until 2023 before the game on Sunday and then celebrated by firing in Leipzig’s first at the far post.

Shortly before the start of the game, the club had announced the new deal with Werner, who had been repeatedly linked with a move to Bayern Munich in the past months.

The 23-year-old, who had scored 62 goals in 116 matches for the club prior to Sunday, delivered again after just 10 minutes.

Poulsen added their second with a sizzling volley in the 80th minute before Frankfurt pulled a goal back with Goncalo Paciencia’s close-range tap-in a minute from the end.

Leipzig have won both matches so far and are level on six points with Borussia Dortmund, Freiburg and Bayer Leverkusen.

VfL Wolfsburg also joined them on maximum points after cruising past lacklustre Hertha Berlin 3-0.

Wout Weghorst put the Wolves ahead with a ninth minute penalty before Josip Brekalo doubled the lead eight minutes from time with a darting run into the box, and Jerome Roussillon smashed in the third in injury time.
