ISLAMABAD, July 29: Secretary-General of the People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) Raja Pervez Ashraf has said Gen Pervez Musharraf is busy in crushing democracy-loving and moderate political forces instead of focussing on war against terrorism and extremism.

He was talking to various delegations of parliamentarians, party office-bearers and Awam Dost Group candidates at his residence here on Friday.

Mr Ashraf, who is also the deputy parliamentary leader of the party in the National Assembly, said Gen Musharraf was prolonging his unconstitutional rule by using extremist elements. He said Gen Musharraf was double-crossing the extremists and the US to retain power.

Mr Ashraf said first Gen Musharraf handed over the NWFP to the religious parties in October 2002 elections and the religious parties supported Gen Musharraf in the 17th Constitutional Amendment to consolidate the military rule. He said Hasba Bill was also a proxy war between the Mullah and the military.
