KOHAT: The police arrested a proclaimed offender wanted in a double murder case from Ambar Banda here on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Asghar Khan, had allegedly killed two people over a dispute of cutting trees a few months ago.

SHO Fayyaz Khan got a tip that the accused was hiding in the area after which he surrounded the hideout. Police claimed that the accused started firing at the police party, but he was overpowered and shifted to the police station.

Meanwhile, the traffic wardens impounded scores of motorcycles in a crackdown launched against wheeling and those making noise by removing silencers.

In Lakki Marwat, police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested scores of outlaws in raids a week before Eidul Azha.

An official said that raids were part of search and strike operation under Eid security plan to maintain peace and harmony during the religious festival.

He said that different police parties eliminated hideouts of outlaws in rural localities and apprehended 44 people, including 11 proclaimed offenders, four drug traffickers, five anti-social elements and 24 suspects.
