ISLAMABAD July 26: Meeting of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal leadership will be held here on Wednesday to chalk out strategy to meet the challenge of a countrywide crackdown on seminaries.

The alliance, sources said, is likely to take a hard line against the government’s policy of suppressing anti-US religious elements. It may propose steps which could include requisition of a National Assembly session and to announce countrywide protest rallies.

The meeting, to be presided over by MMA president Qazi Hussain Ahmed, will also take stock of the political situation with particular reference to the controversy that has been triggered by the passage of ‘Hasba’ bill by the NWFP Assembly.

The MMA is confronted with serious differences in its ranks over the question of whether to attend the National Security Council (NSC) meeting in future. Though the issue is not on the agenda but it is likely to figure in the meeting.

The other important item on the agenda, according to sources, is to create some sort of interaction between component parties in the ongoing local government polls process.

The MMA component parties had earlier mutually decided to contest LG polls separately and to make local adjustments where possible.

The formation of a MMA general council will also come up for a final decision.
