KOHAT: Adviser to chief minister on education, MPA Ziaullah Bangash on Saturday distributed cash prizes amounting to Rs20.47 million among 87 outstanding students of government schools and colleges.

The advisor and chairman of the Kohat Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Iyas Afridi also gave away trophies to the sportsmen. Each student of SSC was given Rs120,000 and FSc Rs180,000.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Bangash said they had started awarding the students under the ‘Stars of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’ programme in 2011 and since then they had given Rs200 million to 700 students.

He said second shifts were being started in schools to accommodate the dropouts. He said for that purpose all primary and middle schools were being upgraded.

Similarly, he said a policy had been made to introduce IT classes in schools. He said schools showing good results would be rewarded while those with the poor outcome would be issued show-cause notices.

SCHOOLS SEALED: The administration has sealed two more schools for charging the students fee for summer vacations against the orders of the Peshawar High Court.

Additional assistant commissioner-II, Murad Ahmed Hoti visited the two schools and after checking the record found that they had got advance three months fees of summer vacations from children.

The schools’ owners were asked to refund the fee to students.
